Ryan grew up surrounded by the vineyards and beaches of Margaret River, Western Australia. He knew at an early age that he was destined for a career in the wine industry and not as a professional surfer.
He studied Viticulture at the University of Adelaide while working in the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Adelaide Hills. After two years in New Zealand with Pegasus Bay his love for Pinot Noir drew him to Oregon's Willamette Valley for a harvest. He fell in love with the region returning to settle in with A to Z Wineworks and REX HILL in 2010. While at A to Z and REX HILL he worked with over 70 vineyards from across the state following sustainable principles. Along with running the biodynamic and organic program for the estate sites, he also managed grower relations and viticulture research. Joining Giant Steps in 2017, Ryan is excited to be back in Australia, playing an active role in the Victorian wine industry.
